CE and KEYMARK

From 13 May 2003 onwards, producers of insulation products for the construction sector are obliged to label their products with the CE-mark (example and axplanation CE-label). The European Constructions Products Directive (CPD)states that products for construction purposes must meet a number of requirements in order to qualify for CE-marking. The CE-label simplifies the comparison between the different types of materials and therefore makes the choice for the consumer easier. The main advantage for the producer is that he can introduce his products on the European market a lot easier. The CE-label functions as a European passport for construction materials. Products who do not have the CE-mark can (in principle) not be sold on the european market.
Apart from a number of basic characteristics (such as board dimensions), the CE-label contains a number of declared values as demanded by the European harmonised product standard. Declaring those characteristics, e.g. lambda value and fire behaviour, is the result of intense in company control and external testing by recognised laboratories.
By means of the CE-label, the producer indicates that the product meets the demands required by the CPD and that it is conform the harmonised European product standards.
The CE-label is a mark of conformity and is not a quality label.

That is why Recticel Insulation has decided to label its products with the Keymark.
The Keymark is a voluntary label. Its main objective is to continuously guarantee the quality of a product.
First of all, the product undergoes a number of initial tests.
Secondly, a third party audits the producer in order to acertain whether his quality assurance system functions adequately. This third party also certifies the product.
The Keymark is in fact the security code of the european passport, because this system validates the information declared on the CE-label.
Because both labels are complementary, the coninuous quality of the product is guaranteed.
