Recticel Powerdeck used on Edinburgh University roof

A unique lap joint edge detail on the Powerdeck board helps to prevent thermal bridging at board joints.

The construction team at Edinburgh University utilised 1,600sqm of Recticel’s innovative 140mm Powerdeck flat roof insulation board, as part of a major renovation project to upgrade and improve facilities within the city’s leading institute of higher education.

Working closely with waterproof membrane manufacturers Axter, both organisations supplied directly to Glasgow-based Briggs Roofing & Cladding who oversaw all roofing works at the scheme.

One of the few FM approved systems available in the UK, used collaboratively, the Powerdeck/Axter product offers high quality insulation with an outstanding fire performance.

The Powerdeck boards have been developed to offer a lightweight yet extremely rigid and flat board in a range of thicknesses from 30mm to 150mm. Recticel offer a unique solution in the supply of thicker single-layer insulation systems by using a lap joint edge profile to prevent thermal bridges at the board joints – this eliminates the extended labour, time and cost implications often associated with other, more traditional, two-layer systems. Recticel is the leading European manufacturer of thicker, single-layer roof insulation systems.

This development phase was completed within a six week period.

Chris Hall, Sales and Marketing Director at Recticel Insulation Products commented: “The Powerdeck product was chosen for this project through its ability to offer a high quality, durable and lasting insulation solution. Recticel aims to continue to introduce innovative and high quality materials and products that meet and often exceed the demands of the construction/roofing market.”
